We Are Reaching Out for Support!
Community Harvest Food Bank is reaching out for area support and donations of food items in low supply. The food bank operates several hunger relief programs through nine counties in northeast Indiana and operates from a large Fort Wayne warehouse.
“Right now, we are running low on canned proteins and other foods that we distribute to kids, seniors, Veterans, and families,” said Carmen Cumberland, Executive President. “We are asking for help from our extremely generous community, including a request for donations of canned vegetables and soups, canned meats like tuna and chicken, and peanut butter.”
Community Harvest Food Bank distributes over 1 million pounds of food every month and serves approximately 85,000 individuals annually.
“We are incredibly fortunate for the gifts from community members, businesses, and farmers who participate in hunger relief,” said Cumberland. “Right now, our shelves are running low on some items that offer nutritious options to families we serve.”
Currently, the food bank has a wish list of the following items:
· Canned vegetables
· Canned soups
· Canned meats
· Peanut butter
· Boxed meals
· Macaroni and cheese
· Pasta
“We are reaching out and asking folks to donate something from their home pantry or purchase one extra item when they do their grocery shopping,” said Cumberland. “It makes such a big difference to a family who is going without.”
Anyone wishing to donate food or funding can visit Community Harvest at 999 East Tillman Road in Fort Wayne. The food bank operates Monday through Friday, 8AM-4PM. Gift-in-kind receipts are gladly provided on request. Financial donations can also be made conveniently online at www.CHFB.org.
