Community Harvest Receives $20,000 from Kraft Heinz through Feeding America to Benefit the Kids BackPack Program
Thanks to a generous $20,000 donation from Kraft Heinz Co. through Feeding America, Community Harvest is able to purchase much-needed food for its Kids BackPack program, which provides weekend food to hundreds of kids and teens without other resources. The funding will be used to purchase foods like fruits, vegetables, soups, protein, boxed meals, snacks, cereal, and milk, which is distributed to disadvantaged and at-risk kids in the area.
“The Kids BackPack has been a sustainable program since it began in 1999,” said Carmen Cumberland, Community Harvest Executive President. “Because of funding partners like Kraft Heinz who gave such a generous gift to help feed kids in need, we know that we’ll be victorious in our battle against child hunger one day.”
Thanks to the funding, 400 kids who participate in the year-round program will receive a ten-pound bag of shelf stable food each week, enough to feed themselves and even a sibling. Foods are kid friendly, fortified, and easy to prepare.
