Community Harvest Receives $10,000 Grant through Red Nose Day Campaign
Thanks to Feeding America and Red Nose Day USA, Community Harvest Food Bank has received a $10,000 grant to offset the costs associated with the Kids BackPack and TeenPak programs. This grant will provide more than 17,000 weekend meals to kids in need.
“This annual funding through Red Nose Day is so important to ending youth hunger in northeast Indiana,” said Carmen Cumberland, Community Harvest Executive President. “If one child lacks adequate meals, it is one child too many. We aim to make sure our northeast Indiana kids have full bellies and bright futures, and this grant goes a long way to fulfilling that goal.”
Community Harvest has received support funding through the Red Nose Day campaign for several years, and it has been instrumental in the success of the Kids BackPack program. Recently, the TeenPak program was added to help end teen hunger as well. The separate enrollment will help address issues of age-appropriate enrichment activities and differing food that appeals to younger children and teens on the programs.
The Kids BackPack and TeenPak programs provide ten-pound bags of shelf stable food each weekend, when kids don’t have access to food through programs like Kids Cafe or Summer Feeding. Bags contain soups, fruits, vegetables, boxed meals, proteins, snacks, and milk/juice.
