Columbia City Walmart First Recipient of the Fight Hunger – Spark Change Trophy
This year will mark the first year that Community Harvest Food Bank will offer a traveling trophy and banner to mark the winner of the annual ‘Fight Hunger. Spark Change’ event. This event is an annual battle between regional Walmart stores. Each store collects funds from customers at checkout where they are prompted at purchase to round up their giving, or to give even more. These fund are then utilized to pay for our programs that fight hunger throughout the year in our region.
The participating Walmart stores are Angola, Auburn, Bluffton, Columbia City, Decatur, Huntington, Kendallville, and the Fort Wayne locations at Coldwater, Lima, Maysville, Southtown and Apple Glen. They competed over a 3 week period where each store was then ranked to show which community donated the most. Columbia City did not make the #1 spot until the second week, but managed to pull off the final win.
