“OH! THE PLACES BLACKHAWK MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL GO.” Oh! The places Blackhawk Middle …
“OH! THE PLACES BLACKHAWK MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL GO.” Oh! The places Blackhawk Middle School will go. Designed with freedom, imagination, and creativity in mind, our old-style VW van generates endless possibilities. Imagine where we could travel! East coast, west coast, Canada, and beyond! The students at Blackhawk Middle School have high dreams and hopes of who they want to be and where they want to go. With a little encouragement and a lot of determination, this VW van is a symbol of who our students (and everyone) can become!
“OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO.” We are off to great places! Today is our day! Our balloon is waiting, So…let’s get on our way!
Year after year, day after day, Canstruction is fighting hunger, wouldn’t you say? Feeding the hungry, that is our goal And unite our world as a whole.
Oh, the places we’ll go. Members, both new and old. They have made a huge impact, Just listen to the stories they’ve told.
They are here and there. They are everywhere. Doing good things for all, No matter how big or small.
They are off to great places! Today is their day! Their LIFE is waiting, So…let’s float them on their way!
“A DAY IN LONDON” The capital of the United Kingdom spans back over 2 millennia with its beautifully erected landmarks, and vibrant culture. Both of which are depicted here, in ‘A Day in London.’ Traveling aboard a double-decker bus allows an individual to to fully experience the expanse of gothic architecture used in numerous amounts of iconic structures. One of which hardly needs introduction, the renowned Big Ben tower. With the depiction of both structures, the build fully immerses viewers in the splendor of London’s architectural immortality. In this sense, the DeKalb Canstruction team wishes to carry out the theme, ‘Oh the Places you’ll go!’ by expressing the ideals of; individual uniqueness and taking action towards discovering new adventures and opportunities.
“REACH FOR THE STARS” When thinking of this year’s theme, “Oh, The Places You’ll Go”, and discussing the futures of our team members after high school, we continued to return to the idea of reaching for the stars and following your dreams. Our build is a tribute to our seniors as they rocket towards the unknown, reaching the spaces where their dreams are realized. We celebrate the beginning of their journey and thank them for their contributions and efforts to eradicate hunger in our community. It’s one small step for New Haven’s Canstruction team, and one giant leap for our seniors!
“SLIP SLIDING AWAY” Every summer, people pack up and travel across the globe in search of fun and relaxation. A 1960s icon, the Volkswagen Van represented all that was enjoyment and it certainly got people moving! As North Side envisioned our community motivated to helping those around us live in peace, we saw the iconic Peas Van, a Volkswagen Bus, driven to curb hunger in our city.
“THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA” Have you ever learned about some of the world’s greatest landmarks? Where there would be an undoubtable symbolism of unification. And there are many moments in our world where we don’t see unification. But through CANstruction, we can bring that unification back to our world and help as many people as possible. At the Great Wall of China, there will always be a sense of unification and attraction, and we are hoping to bring those two characteristics together this year.
“LET’S SEE THE INCREDIBLE WORLD WE HAVE!” – PEABODY AND SHERMAN Oh the Places You’ll Go! What an incredible world to see! From those in the past to you and me! This world has been filled with different cultures, and remnants of times passed. Generations of dreams fulfilled and those to still be achieved. At times those dreams and the paths to reach them, have seemed hopeless. Times can be so tough, we can lose focus. But, “On we will go, though the weather be foul! On we will go though our enemies prowl!” We have continued forward, we have persevered, even against the things we have feared. Together we can lift each other up, transform our world and help those in need. And will we succeed? “Yes we will indeed!” We will “move mountains.” So take care, keep hope and a smile…. although it may seem that the journey takes a while. We will climb the mountains and then we will see just how incredible this world can truly be.
“NIAGARA FALLS“ Our design is a magical depiction of one of the United States’ natural wonders. With a river of black beans and macaroni, it blooms with bright colors. The audience is able to view the falls from above, one which is coveted by many tourists. The tranquil pasture of tomatoes on top of the flowing water is perfect for observers to wander through. Enjoy this natural wonder, brought to your home by the CLHS Cadets.
“THE JOURNEY NEVER ENDS” The journey begins with a destination in mind, but as one sits in the midst of the quiet night, one starts to reflect on what is really important in life. The beauty of a colorful sunset, the glow of a warm campfire, and the smiles of our good mindset. It’s not about the destination, but the journey about helping others’ along the way. Community Harvest demonstrates the ability of many different people supporting each other along the exciting, demanding, and sometimes confusing journey of life. The support of this food bank leads to more than just a final product. It teaches and changes lives through the continued support and gratification of everyone involved.
“YOU CAN ONLY IMAGINE” The possibilities of a good book CAN change how you see the world. Reading opens the mind to all these crazy, zany, and wild imaginations, affecting the young to the old. We chose to show 4 alternate covers of the book “Oh, the places you’ll go”, that come straight from the quirky imagination of Dr. Seuss himself. CAN your vacation be at this eccentric dream house? CAN you travel the world in a hot air balloon? CAN you stroll through a topsy-turvy city? CAN you climb a spiral mountain? So, where are all the places you’ll go? With a book, our answer is You CAN Only Imagine.
“A TOUR OF THE PLACES YOU’LL GO” In the book Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss, a little yellow guy travels by hot air balloon throughout the whole story and crosses many distant places. We start our tour with the book’s iconic yellow paved garden. Next we move on to our main piece, the hot air balloon depicted in the story floating over the rolling green landscape. The little yellow guy then continues his journey to the bus that is waiting to take him to wherever his heart desires. His last stop is the lake that is filled with creatures and he is stranded on his little boat. Our design can easily be seen as an endless loop to display the never-ending desire to travel and discover as each year goes by. The greatest getaway in life is where our hearts lead us.
