Kids BackPack and TeenPak

There are children in northeast Indiana who rely on free or reduced-priced school lunches during the school year. For many that may be the only full meal they eat all day. During the weekend or school vacations those same children may have limited access to food. The Kids BackPack and TeenPak programs are designed to meet the needs of hungry children and teens at times when other resources are not available.

The backpacks are filled with meals that children take home on weekends. The food is child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified. The bags are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend. In addition to providing nutritious food to school children in need, our Kids BackPack and TeenPak programs provide extra food for younger siblings at home. Community Harvest Food Bank distributes backpacks on a year ’round basis to recipients.

Kids BackPack and TeenPak FAQ

The Kids BackPack program is available to referred children from low-income households enrolled with partner feeding sites. Community Harvest Food Bank works in partnership with several feeding sites in the area that offer programs for children. Kids are able to enroll in the program and pick up their bags from these partner sites.

Each week, ten-pound bags of shelf stable foods are distributed to kids and teens participating in the program. Items include soups, cereal, milk, juice, boxed meals, vegetables, fruits, snacks, and protein.

If you are a nonprofit organization interested in participating as a Kids BackPack distribution site, please contact Bethany Stander at (260) 447-3696.
